Shad Thames- Offices

The owners of this historic Shad Thames office space tasked Heckmann Design with transforming a tired, standard kitchenette into a lively, unique gathering hub. The goal was to create a "fun and quirky" bar area for everything from casual coffee breaks to informal event-   departure from the expected office environment.

The warmth of the wood in joinery was selected to create contrast to the existing beautiful, exposed brick, and iron columns of the industrial age- so important for this area.  A stand-out feature is the bespoke joinery, designed by us with a specific pattern of decorative studs that catch the eye and cleverly echo the heavy bolts on the building's original columns. This intricate work, which adds both movement and character, was expertly crafted by the talented joiners at WD Packman. Sustainable, chocolate-coloured cork flooring was chosen for its rich look, acoustic dampening qualities, and reusability.  The lighting features were also extremely important to complete and add to the look and the atmosphere of this space. The new bathroom spaces were finished with a simple but interesting on the eye pallet, that is simple, elegant and easy to maintain.

The design interventions respect the building's unique heritage while offering a modern, enjoyable space for future occupants.
